Many people think designing their baby is a great thing. That may not always be the case. In the procedure of designing your baby, if the process is not done correctly the embryo could be destroyed or may have a few birth defects. Also, the technology that is being used is not 100% which meaning that it is still in the experimental stage, and it still has its flaws. Geneticists are not perfect people, and they might mess up during the procedure so the baby may/may not have everything you want it to have. Including that the technology is fairly new, geneticists are not sure if that will affect their gene pool further in life. This could have an affect on the designer babies' family tree.
Major gap in Society
Designer babies would create a major gap into society because they may have been designed to be smarter than an average human. Which that may be good, because they may find new discoveries, but then people would try to create classes toward education, specific features, and just in general if you were a designer baby or not. The procedure is not cheap, and not everyone would be able to afford it. This could create prejudice between “Designer” and “non designer” children, and could cause the “non-designer” children to miss opportunities because jobs among other things are more likely to take the “optimum” candidate for something.
Genes often have more than one use. For example, a gene that controls intelligence can control anger. You could end up with a genius but a very angry child.

Scientists believe genetic engineering has irreversible side effects. In the event that they replace other important genes instead of the mutated ones, other forms of diseases or health conditions are likely to develop.

Also, geneticists do not know the long term consequences will bring from genetic engineering. In attempts to save the human race, genetic engineering could end up destroying it.
